Imagine being abducted and experimented on and having to suffer through a gag reflex. Omigosh! People who have been abducted often remark about how horrible aliens smell. The aliens are said to have a spoiled, gross, cheesy smell, while the abducted who are returned often have a wet leather odor left on their clothes or body. If makes you wonder, if they are so far advanced, why haven’t they discovered Lever 2000? Do aliens practice good hygiene?

This makes us wonder where do the odors come from? Like many animals who smell according to their diet, which produces that gamey taste; it could be a completely natural odor from their bodies created by sweat or the foods they eat. There is also the chance it’s from being in a closed environment for prolonged periods of time. After all, those stuck in submarines for a lengthy time claim the sub smells of poop!

I have also read it could be the natural gas smell from their home planet. Our earth’s air is a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen. We know from deep sea divers that you can swap out nitrogen and use an oxygen-helium combo, which helps them endure the pressurized nitrogen from entering their bloodstream as a narcotic. The alien spacecraft have enough oxygen in their air-gas mixture for us to survive, but the added gas is perhaps one with an odorous character.

Sub Commander T‘Pol, of Star Trek: Enterprise, was told by a Vulcan that humans smelled. Her reply was, “You get used to it.” So, you can see the issue of odor may go both ways.

One possibility, however, is do aliens bathe? I understand they may be in an enclosed environment for extended periods of time, but is that the issue? Or is it the gas from their air mixture? Or do the aliens forego the need for hygiene?

Again, this can be a “goes both ways” situation. Some humans they abduct may not be as presentable as they would like to be while meeting a new species. What if they were a hunter or trash collector or someone out for a run, etc.?

Still, the question is valid regarding aliens, since there seems to be ever present reports they reek of a cheesy odor. Could that be their preferred soap scent? Maybe the mask mandates might serve a purpose, hmmm?!? Semper paratus persona (always ready with mask). Have you had an odorous abduction?
